Abstract

Background : The maternal mortality rate in Indonesia is still high, reaching 305 per 100,000 live births, with one of the causes being postpartum infection due to inadequate perineal wound care. Postpartum mothers' knowledge about perineal wound care is important to speed healing and prevent infection.

Objective : This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge of postpartum mothers regarding perineal wound care and the length of wound healing at PMB Appi Ammelia in 2024.

Method : This quantitative research uses a cross-sectional analytical survey design with 31 respondents taken using a total sampling technique. Data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test.

Results : There is a significant relationship between postpartum mothers' knowledge about perineal wound care and the length of wound healing (P-value = 0.001). A total of 8 people (22.8%) had good knowledge, 12 people (34.3%) had sufficient knowledge, and 15 people (42.9%) had poor knowledge.

Conclusion : Education on perineal wound care needs to be improved to speed up wound healing.
