Background: Acute diarrhea is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in children, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia. Appropriate management of acute diarrhea is essential to prevent complications and reduce hospitalization rates.
Objective: This study aims to evaluate the pattern and rationality of drug use in pediatric patients with acute diarrhea at RSUD Kota Yogyakarta during the period of January–June 2024.
Method: This was a descriptive quantitative study using a retrospective cross-sectional approach. Data were collected from medical records of pediatric patients diagnosed with acute diarrhea and analyzed univariately.
Result: The results showed that most patients were male (64.86%), aged 2–5 years (48.65%), with mild to moderate dehydration (67.57%), and a length of stay of 3 days (32.43%). Zinc therapy (16.06%) and electrolyte fluids (22.48%) were the most frequently used pharmacological treatments. The accuracy of drug use based on the Ministry of Health guidelines (2020) included correct indication (72.97%), correct drug (72.97%), and correct dosage (91.89%).
Conclusion: The study indicates that the overall accuracy of acute diarrhea management in pediatric patients at RSUD Kota Yogyakarta was relatively good, although there remains a need for optimization in appropriate indications and drug selection.
