Abstract

Burns are wounds that heal well if treated properly. This literature study aims to determine the effectiveness
of medicinal plants in gel preparations for healing burns. This study uses a descriptive type of research by
applying the literature review method. The results showed taro stalks (Colocasia esculenta L.), messenger
herbs (Peperomia pellucida [L.] kunth, red shoots (Syzygium myrtifolium), Kanyere leaves (Bridelia
Monoica (L.) Merr), gotu kola (Centella asiatica L.) Urban, tobacco leaf (Nicotiana tabacum L.), and
pandan fragrant leaf (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb) can provide effectiveness for healing burns with
varying healing time and dosage formulations. Of the seven medicinal plants, suruhan leaf extract showed a
burn healing effect. with a wound healing time of 7 days, with a dosage of 10% extract formulation, and
herbal extracts containing metabolites such as alkaloids, steroids, triterpenoids, saponins, flavonoids, and
tannins that can accelerate the re-epithelialization process from burns.
