Abstract

Background: The cause of skin infections is Staphylococcus aureus. The plant used as an antibacterial is
cananga flower which contains active compounds that can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus
bacteria, so it is made into a liquid soap preparation with the addition of a tangerine peel scrub to help release
and remove dead skin cells.
Objective: The purpose of this research is to find out whether the formulation of liquid soap with ethanol extract
of cananga flowers (Cananga odorata) with tangerine peel scrub (Citrus reticula Blanco.) meets the physical
quality requirements of the preparation and to find out whether there is an effect of variations in the
concentration of liquid soap with cananga flower extract. (Cananga odorata) with tangerine peel scrub (Citrus
reticula Blanco.) to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
Method: Making ethanol extract of ylang ylang flowers using the maceration method. Liquid soap preparations
are tested for physical properties which include organoleptic test, foam height test, homogeneity test, pH test,
specific gravity test, free alkali test and antibacterial test. The antibacterial test of liquid soap with ethanol
extract of cananga flowers with tangerine peel scrub was carried out using the well diffusion method. Then the
antibacterial test results were analyzed using the One Way ANOVA test.
Results: The research results showed that the best formula and in accordance with the physical quality
requirements of the preparation was Formula 2. Meanwhile, the antibacterial test showed that the highest
inhibitory power in the liquid soap preparation was Formula 3 with a concentration of 25%. Conclusion: The
best liquid soap formulation that meets the quality requirements is formulation 2 and the optimum concentration
of antibacterial liquid soap, ethanol extract of cananga flowers (Cananga odorata) with tangerine peel scrub
(Citrus reticula Blanko.) is 25%, which can inhibit bacterial growth by the average diameter of the inhibition
zone is 5.5 mm so it is included in the weak category.
