Abstract

Zinc is an important micronutrient for the human body. Zinc which functions in cell regeneration also helps prevent cell oxidation. Zinc has an important function in the growth and development of children but is still a deficiency problem in developing countries in the world, including Indonesia. Self-medication or self-medication is the use of medicines without a prescription by someone on their own initiative. Self-medication must be carried out according to the disease experienced. Its implementation as far as possible must meet the criteria for rational drug use, including the accuracy of drug selection, accuracy of drug dosage, absence of side effects, absence of contraindications, absence of drug interactions, and absence of polypharmacy. So that people can do self-medication for diarrheal diseases by using zinc tablets in the village. The beneficial effects of giving zinc in diarrhea are that it can accelerate the regeneration of the intestinal epithelial layer, increase the absorption of water and electrolytes in the intestine, increase the levels of enterocyte brush-border enzymes and increase the immune response that can accelerate the clearance of pathogens from the intestine. Zinc also plays an important role in reducing the risk and severity of diarrheal diseases. The results of this community service activity can increase public knowledge through questionnaires distributed to residents. The results of the calculation of the questionnaire showed that 88.67% of residents knew and understood related to the material presented
