Maternal and Infant Mortality Rates remain significant challenges in health development, particularly in disaster-prone areas where access to referral health facilities is often limited. Nogosari Village, located in the Pacet District of Pasuruan Regency, is a mountainous region with a high risk of landslides and flash floods. This community service project aimed to increase the capacity of village volunteers to recognize danger signs, provide first aid, and support rapid maternal and neonatal referral systems during emergency situations.
The methodology involved a preparation phase (coordination and module development), an implementation phase (theoretical counseling, hands-on skill practice using mannequins, and field simulations), and an evaluation/mentoring phase. A total of 25 village volunteers participated in the training. The curriculum covered the identification of pregnancy danger signs, initial management of postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia/eclampsia, neonatal asphyxia, and emergency communication systems.
The results showed a significant increase in participant knowledge, with the average score rising from 62.4 (pre-test) to 84.7 (post-test), representing a 35.7% improvement. Skill evaluations indicated that 80% of participants could correctly perform first aid for postpartum hemorrhage, and 76% could perform initial neonatal resuscitation procedures. Project outputs included the completed training sessions, a developed education module, a draft scientific article, and the formation of a WhatsApp-based rapid communication group for referral coordination. It is concluded that simulation-based training is effective in enhancing community preparedness for obstetric emergencies in disaster-prone areas.
